The Ultimate Transport Planner

PARIS is the market leading planning solution for full-load multimodal transport.

Unlike traditional transport management systems, PARIS intelligently plans and optimises collection and delivery bookings in real-time using available truck, rail and barge/feeder transport options.

The focus of the planning desk changes to overseeing the plan generated by PARIS, managing exceptions and improving service performance.

Reducing Transport Costs

PARIS has been designed to significantly reduce inland transport costs by optimising both the laden and empty transport moves.

Laden legs

PARIS plans the best transport mode for deliveries and collections by scheduling transport bookings on available space of rail, barge and coastal feeder services combined with truck transport planning.

Think of PARIS like a virtual transport planner who:
  • Knows every aspect of your customers' transport requirements
  • Knows all the distances and transit times to your customer sites
  • Knows all available intermodal options and associated costs
  • Knows your hauliers, their costs and their available resources
  • Works continuously to find the optimal intermodal transport plan
  • Will never retire or leave the company
and will generate cost savings for your inland transport far greater than any other initiative.

Virtual Transport Planner

PARIS considers every feasible permutation of how to put the transport plan together, calculating a cost for each option using the pre-loaded truck and intermodal tariffs.

The PARIS system has an underlying algorithm that continually selects the 'least cost' combination of all the options available in real-time.

The resulting PARIS plan presented to the user is a fully optimised and executable plan. This plan can only be performed at a lower cost by breaking planning rules.

Intelligent Planning

PARIS makes intelligent planning choices by combining the booking information with the pre-loaded knowledge in the system, such as:

  • Haulier and rail/barge operator tariffs and surcharges
  • Rail/barge timetables and availability
  • Transit time and distance matrix
  • Business planning rules e.g. how to plan hazardous, food, etc.
  • Strategic empty depots and target min. and max. for empty stock
  • Haulier resource availability and capability
  • Customer preferred hauliers

← Back

PARIS receives bookings to be planned, for example by EDI, of new, updated and cancelled bookings with data fields such as

  • Collection/delivery city and postcode if available
  • Customer appointment date and time
  • Equipment size and type
  • Load/unload point e.g. port
  • Voyage information if available
  • Customer special instructions

PARIS has a unique natural language feature which searches the customer special instructions for any planning keywords. These keywords may indicate certain planning requirements that should be included as part of the optimised planning, for example, "tipper", which might indicate a special chassis will be required.

The PARIS Team

PARIS is developed and supported from Hutchison Ports (UK) offices within the 'Cambridge cluster', a region around Cambridge, England, which is home to high-tech businesses focusing on software, electronics and latest technologies. With links to Cambridge universities, the area is one of the most important technology centres in Europe.

PARIS is a highly configurable software solution that has very advanced algorithms and parallel processing to provide optimised transport planning in real-time. The PARIS team continues to innovate and develop new solutions to planning intermodal transport, adding new features to PARIS year on year.

The PARIS Solution

PARIS was designed to optimise the inland planning of laden and empty transport legs.

Road Planning

PARIS considers all available booking information to ensure the transport plan produced is feasible and executable.

Intermodal Planning

PARIS is the only true multimodal planning solution that optimises all modes of transport.

Equipment Planning

PARIS provides the most accurate prediction of stock information by bringing the latest transport and equipment situation together in real-time in one system.

Operator Planning

PARIS optimises with automatic selection of Haulier based on cost, availability and capability.

Features

We continue to be at the forefront of planning technology by continually innovating the PARIS products.

Generating C02 savings

On a £20m transport spend, PARIS typically saves between 5% and 8% of the transport budget, including in excess of 1,000,000km of reduced empty distance travelled by truck.

Reduced empty mileage results in a significant carbon footprint reduction, contributing to the constantly increasing focus on sustainability.

MSC (UK) Ltd selected PARIS as its intermodal system, with the aim of establishing a low cost solution that would enable us to deliver a world class service, respond to our customer needs to be greener and drive out waste whilst planning all our multimodal options.

Kelvin Wilden, Transport Director MSC (UK) Ltd.

We have seen massive growth in recent years and through the use of PARIS our planning team has not needed to grow in size. PARIS continues to innovate our business, year on year.

The PARIS system delivers real time planning and optimisation across all of our transport moves enabling us to maximise vehicle use and reduce the empty miles run.

In Great Britain PARIS saved a total of 580,000 kilometres for the same transport capacity in the first ten months of 2012. This is equivalent to avoiding 373 tons of climate malign gases, which would have accrued without optimisation.
